Defence organisations are under growing pressure to invest innovation budgets in ways that are timely, strategic, and evidence-based. Yet deciding where those resources should go is far from straightforward.
Emerging technologies evolve quickly, relevant research is dispersed across institutions, and the wider defence landscape can be difficult to navigate. With current geopolitical developments adding further urgency, gaining clear visibility on relevant technologies, stakeholders, and capabilities is becoming increasingly important.
While ScoutinScience already supports governments and corporate stakeholders in making data-driven innovation decisions, we want to further strengthen our understanding of defence innovation ecosystems in the Netherlands and Belgium. To support this effort, Claudia Lita is conducting her thesis on this topic as part of her work with ScoutinScience.
The study looks at how this landscape is organised in practice, how ministries and defence organisations identify relevant external technologies, and where bottlenecks in innovation adoption emerge. By developing a clearer picture of the relationships, mechanisms, and challenges that shape this environment, the research will help strengthen our understanding of how defence innovation ecosystems can be better supported in dealing with issues related to visibility, complexity, and innovation uptake.
We are currently looking to connect with stakeholders active in defence innovation across the Netherlands and Belgium. If you are open to sharing your perspective through an interview, your contribution would be highly valuable to this research. And if you know someone we should speak to, we would greatly appreciate being connected.
