Our story

ScoutinScience was founded in 2020 with a clear mission: to unlock the hidden value in scientific research that often remains buried within university walls. The founders Jasper, Gilles, and Menno came together through their shared experience in the innovation ecosystem at the University of Twente (UT) in the Netherlands. Jasper had previously spun out a company, Lipocoat, as part of his PhD research, after Gilles founded Golden Egg Check, a company where he coached young entrepreneurial students and researchers. Menno, involved in the startup IamFluidics BV, was also deeply embedded in UT’s entrepreneurial scene. Their collaboration began during a project at the UT’s TTO (Tech Transfer Office), where they were tasked with manually reviewing academic papers for commercialization potential. This process revealed a glaring gap: the manual approach was too slow and inefficient to keep up with the vast output of academic research. They saw the opportunity to solve this problem using artificial intelligence. That realisation sparked the creation of ScoutinScience, an AI built to automatically identify high-potential scientific publications using Machine Learning and Big Data. After piloting with technical universities in the Netherlands, we quickly gained recognition, being awarded twice as a best practice for valorisation by the European Commission. By 2023 and 2025, we raised funds to expand our automated data collection and AI services, pushing our mission forward to double tech transfer output, an ambition that remains central to our work today.

ScoutinScience Team

We’ve since expanded our reach across Europe, with clients in Germany, Austria, and Ireland, while collaborating in consortia with partners from over 10 countries. Our vision has evolved, now embracing the concept of Return on Science, empowering governments and knowledge institutions to be more entrepreneurial, proactive, and data-driven. We’re proud to answer key questions like: Which universities are creating the greatest impact? What makes them unique? And who can you contact to access breakthrough technologies? From our humble beginnings, we’ve grown into a passionate team of 10+ professionals, ready to drive meaningful change on a global scale.

Company Culture

At ScoutinScience, we’re proud to have built an international team of highly educated professionals with deep ties to science and innovation.
